31 Days to Sell Your Home: Day 23 – Sellers, Don’t Be Weird. Leave the House.
🚪 Buyers Need Space — Literally and Mentally
Your presence during a showing is the fastest way to make buyers uncomfortable. They won’t linger, they won’t talk freely, and they definitely won’t picture themselves living there.
What to Do (and Not Do):
- DO leave before the showing starts
- DO take pets and pet gear with you
- DON’T wait in the driveway or “just stay in the basement”
- DON’T try to “help” the buyers or their agent
- DEFINITELY do not hide in the closet.
Even a perfectly staged home feels off if the seller is hovering in the corner like a ghost from closings past.
Bonus Tip:
Make it easy to leave on short notice — keep things tidy and have a grab-and-go bag ready for pets, kids, etc.
👉 One Action to Take Today:
Create a “showing checklist” and a quick exit plan so you’re not scrambling when the request comes in.
