31 Days to Sell Your Home: Day 19 – Hide the Pets (and the Evidence)
🐾 Love Your Pets — But Don’t Let Buyers See Them
Not everyone is a “dog person.” Or a “cat person.” Or a “pet hair on my pants” person.
Even if your pets are angels, their presence can raise red flags:
- “Will this carpet smell?”
- “Are there scratches under this rug?”
- “Is that… a litter box?”
What to Remove for Showings:
- Pet beds, bowls, crates, and toys
- Litter boxes (or at least relocate and clean them)
- Food and water bowls from visible areas
- Pet hair from all surfaces — vacuum like your sale depends on it (because it does)
Bonus Tip:
If possible, take your pet with you during showings. Crates or barking behind closed doors make buyers feel rushed and awkward.
👉 One Action to Take Today:
Walk through your house like someone with allergies. If your pet’s presence is obvious, clean and clear it out.
