The kids will love the Da Vinci Science Center for an afternoon of fun and learning, and of course, if you long for thrills, cotton candy, and tons of rides, Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom offers over 200 acres of roller coasters and rides.
Local Architecture
Center City features a downtown shopping district and contains the city's tallest buildings. Homes in this area are typically Federal Style row homes and Victorians with tongs of original character. East Allentown has a little more space between the homes and here you will find a mix of row homes, twins, and detached homes, some quite large. South Allentown is a mix of residential and commercial and features homes of all types. The West End is known for its' parks and stately manors, you will find many large homes here as well as Muhlenburg College Campus.
Shopping & Markets
Allentown has many different kinds of shopping. In addition to the local neighborhood stores, the Lehigh Valley Mall corridor has every kind of store imaginable. The outdoor galleria offers a more upscale experience while the indoor mall houses three major department stores and more. There are many shopping centers within a mile or two of this epic shopping corridor. Downtown Allentown offers a more personal, small business feel and an afternoon strolling through this part of town is well spent. For those who enjoy a good Farmer's Market, there are many outdoor options in the summer, but the Allentown Farmer's Market is permanently installed at the fair grounds, is open year round, and is not to be missed.
Public Transportation
The Lehigh Valley International Airport provides direct flights to many Eastern US locations and connections to many, many more. It's convenient to travel anywhere from this local hub. Allentown doesn't have passenger trains, but there are public buses that service every area of the city. You can grab a long distance bus ticket at the Greyhound Station.
