Allentown is home to many entertainment venues. See a hockey game, a show or monster trucks at the PPL Center. Visit Miller Symphony Hall for a concert or the 19th Street Theater for a live play or art film. No matter your style or field of interest, there is something for you to do in Allentown.
Restaurants & Bars
Allentown is the largest city in the Lehigh Valley and the third largest city in Pennsylvania. Every kind of cuisine is represented by the local eateries. Find yourself watching a belly dancer while eating Mediterranean or enjoy the valleys best burgers on a paper plate - the options are endless. Looking for something more adult? There are bars, microbreweries and clubs throughout the area, with a concentration downtown within walking distance of the many entertainment venues.
Parks & Outdoors
Stroll through the Allentown Rose Gardens or visit the ducks at Cedar Beach Park. There are miles of trails at the Allentown Fish Hatchery where trout are farmed to stock the local streams. The rail trail is a great place to ride or hike and of course there are many wilderness and hiking areas just outside Allentown proper, including sections of the Appalachian Trail. Every neighborhood has it's own parks and playgrounds, no matter where you live you'll find it easy to get lots of sunshine and fresh air.
Museums & Amusements
Whether you fancy painting or sculptures, photographs or pottery, the Allentown Art Museum has an exhibit for you. If your interest lies with all things motorized, the America on Wheels Museum is for you. The kids will love the Da Vinci Science Center for an afternoon of fun and learning, and of course, if you long for thrills, cotton candy, and tons of rides, Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom offers over 200 acres of roller coasters and rides.
Center City features a downtown shopping district and contains the city's tallest buildings. Homes in this area are typically Federal Style row homes and Victorians with tongs of original character. East Allentown has a little more space between the homes and here you will find a mix of row homes, twins, and detached homes, some quite large. South Allentown is a mix of residential and commercial and features homes of all types. The West End is known for its' parks and stately manors, you will find many large homes here as well as Muhlenburg College Campus.
Shopping & Markets
Allentown has many different kinds of shopping. In addition to the local neighborhood stores, the Lehigh Valley Mall corridor has every kind of store imaginable. The outdoor galleria offers a more upscale experience while the indoor mall houses three major department stores and more. There are many shopping centers within a mile or two of this epic shopping corridor. Downtown Allentown offers a more personal, small business feel and an afternoon strolling through this part of town is well spent. For those who enjoy a good Farmer's Market, there are many outdoor options in the summer, but the Allentown Farmer's Market is permanently installed at the fair grounds, is open year round, and is not to be missed.
The Lehigh Valley International Airport provides direct flights to many Eastern US locations and connections to many, many more. It's convenient to travel anywhere from this local hub. Allentown doesn't have passenger trains, but there are public buses that service every area of the city. You can grab a long distance bus ticket at the Greyhound Station.
