Entertainment & The Arts
The Hellertown area does not have any large entertainment venues within the area proper, but it is within minutes of Bethlehem's Stabler Arena and Steel Stacks. There are always plenty of shows from big name current pop stars to cover bands and local musicians. Lehigh University and the Banana Factory offer even more variety and living in the Hellertown area doesn't sacrifice any access to big city arts and entertainment.
Restaurants & Bars
Restaurants in Hellertown are concentrated on Main Street and there are many fine eateries, from pubs and bars to smaller mom and pop cafes. You can always get a great meal in Hellertown and it's close to more variety in Bethlehem just around the corner.
Parks & Outdoors
The Hellertown area has many opportunities for outdoor recreation. There are many neighborhood parks and playgrounds and several large parks. The Saucon Rail Trail crosses through town and offers opportunity for walking, running or bike riding. For something different, an "outdoor" activity unique to Hellertown is Lost River Caverns. This underground cave can be toured year round and is fun for all.
Museums & Amusements
Though there is a small geological museum at Lost River Caverns, the closest museums can be found in Bethlehem or Easton. The National Museum of Industrial History is located in Bethlehem and the National Canal Museum in Easton is a great warm weather activity. The Steel Stacks and Banana Factory have plenty of workshops and classes to keep the whole family busy.
Local Architecture
The architecture in Hellertown is newer than in other areas of the valley. Though there is some turn of the century architecture on Main Street, including a few Victorian style homes, rowhomes and twins, the newer neighborhoods are filled with post-war single family homes. Outside Hellertown there are many modern housing developments and some very large estates.
Shopping & Markets
Although there are a few shopping centers in the area, which makes groceries very accessible, there are really not any clothing stores. The closest shops of this kind are either the Wal-Mart/Target shopping corridor near Route 248 and 33 or the Lehigh Valley Mall area in Allentown.
Public Transportation
The Lehigh Valley International Airport provides direct flights to many Eastern US locations and connections to many, many more. It's convenient to travel anywhere from this local hub and it lies in Allentown just across the border with Bethlehem. There is public bus service available in the Hellertown area though some parts of Lower Saucon Township are not serviced.
